C. P. Lesley is the pseudonym of Carolyn Pouncy, a historian of 16th-century Russia and the managing editor of Kritika: Explorations in Russian and Eurasian History. My edited and translated edition of The Domostroi: Rules for Russian Households in the Time of Ivan the Terrible (Ithaca, NY: Cornell University Press, 1994) and years of research into Ivan IV and his times gave rise to the Legends of the Five Directions series.

When not thinking up new ways to torture my characters, I edit other people’s manuscripts, read voraciously, maintain this Web site, and take classes in classical ballet.
