Happy Birthday, United States of America!

I started to write a somehow-Independence-Day post to celebrate the semi-quincentennial, but then I thought, Why get in the way of what looks like it’s going to be a great party? So instead, here are my happy birthday wishes for the United States.

May it still be going strong when the full quincentennial rolls around, but since—barring reincarnation—I won’t be around to celebrate that one, all the more reason to enjoy the festivities now!

And wouldn’t you love a slice of that cake? I know I would.
